One Year of Living in Abundance
To the average online shopper, they’re a pack of index cards wrapped in a small burlap sack.
To Jen Hatzung, founder and CEO of Abundant Affirmations, her affirmation cards are the backbone of a successful business; not only because they sell, but because they work for her.
Jen sits perched in her home office in Norfolk, Virginia, speaking to her Instagram audience in the app’s story feature. Her ice blonde hair reaches just below her chin. She’s clad in trendy, dark-framed eyewear and a light pink t-shirt that reads, “Serious Business Woman.”
“I started using the Money Mindset cards myself,” she says to her audience. “I hold them every day. I read them while I drink my coffee or while I wait for a meeting to start.”
Her Money Mindset cards were the first in a series of sets she sells. And they were created, as are most innovative products are, out of necessity.
Admittedly, Jen was never good with money. Never confident in her ability to earn it or that her multiple business ventures were even worth making money. It’s a problem, she believes, many people (women, in particular) have.
But as an entrepreneur, she quickly learned there was little time for fear or the slightest bent of hesitation in the margins of her work life. After all, if a man could confidently name his price and succeed as a business owner, why couldn’t she?
So she put her money where her mind was. She trained herself by implementing the cards into her everyday life. She’d repeat phrases out loud that are included in her card sets:
Money creates a positive impact in my life.
I am worthy of true success.
I am worthy of making {more} money.
She recalls putting this into practice at the end of 2018, just a few months into her journey with Abundant Affirmations. Later in that month, she says, she filled her largest order to date.
“It’s crazy when you fix your self-talk, when you truly start speaking to yourself as though you’re already successful, what a difference that makes for your business and, really, your life,” Jen says.
Now, she celebrates the launch of her company’s new blog to help encourage women even further with regular encouragement on the web.
As for her inner words, Jen works to train herself and other women to think differently about themselves. She’s inspired by her three-year-old daughter, who she hopes will pick up her own positive habits.
She’s passionate about her products because she created them as reminders for herself.
“Years ago my husband started writing affirmations on post its and hanging them around the house. I thought, there should be a product,” she says. “There should be something that women get to hold in their hands and remind themselves of who they really are.”
Her message she hopes to give way to her customers is clear: that a healthy sense of self worth is one of the greatest motivators, and that anyone in any season of life is both capable and worthy – just as they are.
“You are enough,” she says. “No matter who you are, no matter what you do or don’t do, you are enough.”
