How Do You Start? | An Inside Look into the Filming Process

Let’s talk starting, shall we?

Starting can be difficult. And in fact, according to Invesp (let’s be honest, an episode of the Office), it can be five times more expensive to onboard a new customer over retaining a former one.

As an entrepreneur, you’re no stranger to this fact. Starting is the hardest part.

So today, I want to break down how starting works with Valor Media Group when you’re interested in starting on your journey to creating great video pieces for your business.

1. We schedule a chat

Nothing formal, nothing crazy. Just two people getting to know each other. That’s easy, right?

We’ll talk about your business goals. We’ll talk about your expert-knowledge (you have it, I promise), and what you want your video strategy to convey. We can do this either in person, or over the phone. My all-time favorite is to meet up at places where there is both coffee and wine. If you know of such a place, please feel free to make the meet up suggestion!

2. We’ll make a commitment to each other

Crazy in this “cancel culture” we live in, isn’t it? But to move forward in this process to save us both time and money, we’ll both need to sign on the dotted line.

I’ll draft up a proposal of our content ideas and the deliverables I can create for you. We’ll schedule a time and place to shoot our video. You’ll pay a small deposit to reserve your spot and then – bah-dah-bing! We’ll make the magic happen.

 3. Shoot day!

These are my favorite days. We’ll plan for a two-hour window. A typical shoot day timeline looks like this:

-30 minute lighting and sound set up

-Five minute audio test

-35 minute interview

-30 minute b-roll shots (shots of you in your home or office, walking down the street, drinking coffee, whatever makes you YOU)

-30 minutes pack up!

4. I edit your story

This is where the real fun begins. I’ll take your 35-minute interview and turn it into three different versions for your website and social media channels. I typically aim for a 90-second, 60-second and 30-second version of each video story.

5. You review

While deadlines and schedules vary as a result of client load, I typically like to have a first version ready for you to look at/approve within three weeks of our first shoot date. I’ll submit to you a link to your video files via Dropbox for your review. Your final payment is due to me at the end of the project.

6. Post away (and watch your web traffic begin grow)!

Once your video files are finalized, you are free to do with them what you please! Share them on Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, or your website! Weave them into an email campaign. I’ll be there every step of the way. And if you need help with framing them in the best possible way, I can help!

7. Write a review and be a #dreamclient for life!

Word of mouth can do amazing thing for a business – if you’re happy with your final product, I’d love to hear back from you! We entrepreneurs have to stick together. Join our Facebook group to get connected with other business owners and continue to create ideas for your website, social channels and get weekly encouragement in your feed.
